Okay. In a nutshell, if you're going to say you're "gifted", don't come cavorting down the school hall with your pants unzipped. And please, be able to properly staple two pieces of paper together. I just can't take it. And for all those out there who love to tell people how "smart" they are, remember it's not that smart of a thing to tell people how smart you are. Nearly every definition of intelligence that I've read has some phrase similar to "adaptive behavior" in there somewhere. (Not that anyone has settled on a definition of intelligence yet, and not that anyone has decided that it is a "thing" at all.) So start adapting, people.
And by the way, one of the most reliable, dependable, adaptable, and creative students I've ever had had a two digit IQ and could think circles around the elitists who searched for exclusive services for their "giftedness".
Happy Birthday William Shakespeare...and sorry you supposedly died today too.

Where I share my passion about overcoming adversity, and divorcing ourselves from this sense of entitlement in schools. I love this country too much to be putting people out there who have NO idea what obstacles are, let alone knowing how to manage failure or mounting an attack on their issues. It's like Merlin letting go of young King Arthur before he knows of the all the dangers.

- "A teacher on the edge", "That horrible man", and "Brilliant" are actual quotes that have been used by others when regarding me. I am the author of One Man in His Time: a teacher, a method,and a madness, a book about my first ten years of teaching and how I became drawn to the sharpened side of oblivion divided by two. I have a fascination for math, but an expired interest in teaching the "school" variety. I prefer to dabble in and demonstrate its musings, you might say. I have a background in theatre, but an expired interest in it as well. I am a self-proclaimed Shakespearean but have never been in, nor wish to be in, a Shakespeare production. More often I mumble through soliloquies at public urinals, in the halls at school, at the copy machine, in my car on the way to work, and for unsuspecting telemarketers. I have what people call "soft" skills; So I will probably never be found welding, sawing, hard-wiring, or excavating. Although I have been known to excavate thoughts. I have a background in literature, psychology, and daydreaming (which is underrated, by the way). I am an introvert pretending to be an extrovert in order to survive.
